Evon Byrd, 89, longtime resident of Texas City, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Clear Lake Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be 5p.m.7p.m. , Friday, January 25, 2013, at EmkenLinton Funeral Home in Texas City. She will be remembered privately by her family, who lovingly honored her wish to be cremated.
Evon was born August 10, 1923 in Roganville, Texas. Her family then moved to Jasper, Texas, where she graduated from high school in 1940. Evon attended school in St. Louis, Missouri to become a lab technician. When her schooling was completed, she moved to Texas City, Texas and went to work at BeelerManske Clinic, and later, Mainland Medical Center.
She married Rubert Byrd on May 30, 1946. They were married 62 happy years. Evon was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother G.G., and friend. She spent many happy times with family and friends. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, fishing, and gardening.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rubert Byrd, her parents, Bill and Sally Wilson, and her brother Bill Wilson.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Morris and husband Davy of Dickinson granddaughters Cori Kelemen and husband Darrell of Texas City and Kayce Brown and husband Andrew of Spring. Sharing in her loss are great grandsons, Justin Kelemen, Brandon Kelemen, and Hayden Brown brother James W. Wilson and wife Sue of Austin sisterinlaw Dorothy Wilson of Ruidoso, New Mexico Also surviving are close family friends Rick Yancey and wife Jill of Missouri City and Nelle Leach of Texas City She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces, whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to offer special thanks to all the staff at Clear Lake Regional Hospital and ICU for their loving care and attention.
