Evelyn Hambrick, 78 of Texas City passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at The Rio of the Mainland in Texas City.

Evelyn was born in Orange, TX and grew up in Westlake, LA. In 1957 she married Kenneth Melvin Hambrick. She taught in junior high and high schools in Westlake, Hackberry and Johnson Bayou (all in Louisiana). In 1969, the couple moved to Texas City, where she taught and substituted at Blocker Jr High, Roosevelt-Wilson Elementary, Texas City High and Hitchcock High Schools. She later worked for the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas City Housing Authority, retiring in 2014.

Under the influence of their landlord, Evelyn came to Christ in her early twenties, as did her husband shortly after. She belonged to several churches over the years and participated in various ministries, and most recently joined St. George's Episcopal earlier this year.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hambrick; father Clarence Horr; mother Bonniejean Lutz; stepfather Ovie "Blue" Faul; and sister Edna Ford (Blake). She is survived by her son, Byron Hambrick; brothers Louis Horr (Joan), Ervin Joe Faul and Douglas Faul (Nannette); aunt Eloise McBride; cousins Cecil McBride (Sheila), Robin McBride, Avis Lewis (Homer) and Brian McBride (Linda); brothers-in-law Keith Hambrick and Blake Ford; sister-in-law Sylvia Poimboeuf and nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Evelyn's son wishes to thank his and Evelyn's friends, family, employers and coworkers, Church Family, the Rev. Robin Reeves, the staffs of the Neuro ward at Mainland Medical Center, and of the Rio at Mainland Center (nursing facility), Diana Bertini and her staff, Dr. Sridevi Pavuluri, Dr. Ronald Walters of M.D. Anderson, the staff of Hallmark Hospice, and God for their tireless help, strength and support.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Texas City. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Texas City.

Attendees of Evelyn's funeral may feel free to dress casual, if unable to dress formally.
