Esther I. Smothers Hunt, 95, of Texas City, TX., passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024, Christmas Day at her residence. She passed at home looking very peaceful and she’s in no more pain and suffering.
Esther was born August 8, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa to the late Elsie (Miller) Smothers and Oscar Smothers. Esther attended catholic schools as a child until she was 17 years old. Esther worked in a sewing factory while attending nursing school. She also worked in numerous cleaners as a presser until she retired. In her spare time, she liked watching television, sewing, embroidering and doing puzzle books. But at the end of the day, her family always came first in life.
She was preceded in death by her father Oscar Smothers, mother Elsie LaStant, stepfather Ernest LaStant, Glenn Darden, Sr. father of her child, daughters Mary Jane Clary and Donna Ann Clary, son Clark Clary, Jr., and sisters Marie Ludovissy and Jeanette Plowman.
Esther is survived by her husband of 47 years, Inman Hunt, Jr., daughter Elizabeth Darden Johnson of Texas City, TX, son Glenn Darden of Texas City, TX, Jr., daughter Jean Ann Phillips of Leesville, LA, and son Robert L. Clary, Sr. of Athens, TX, grandchildren Immanuel Sukal, Nathan Sukal, Sr., Ricky Clary, William Clary, Lisa Burch, Bobbie Kluk, Tina Petty, Morgan D. Darden, Abigail Sukal, Abraham Sukal, Nathan Sukal, Jr., A.J. Eldredge, Robert Clary Jr., Michele Clary, Robert Phillips, Richard Phillips, Rachel Bailey, Russell Phillips, Kayla Gibson, and Russell Alber Phillips with additional 5 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, TX. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the chapel of Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Clary, Sr., Glenn Darden, Jr., Morgan Darden, Nathan Sukal, Jr., Nathan Sukal, Sr., and Immanuel Sukal. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Magnum, Ricky Clary, and William Clary.
Celebration of life reception will be held at the Bayshore Community Center (new building), located at 4500 10th St., Bacliff, TX 77518.
