Edward Andrew Meaney, age 84, passed away on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at his home in League City, Texas. Ed was born September 20, 1931, in Washington, D.C., to Thomas James Meaney and Alice Loraine Andrews. He attended Gonzaga College High School and The Catholic University of America where he received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ed served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. In 1957 he moved to Texas and married Anna Marie Hanson of Galveston, Texas in 1958. Together they raised their family in Texas City, and they were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Ed worked for Amoco Oil Company at the Texas City refinery for 37 years before retiring in 1994 as Superintendent of Engineering Services. He was a founding member of the refinery's volunteer fire department. He was a life member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Meaney, the mother of his children; mother, Alice Andrews Meaney, father, Thomas James Meaney and brother, Dr. Thomas Francis Meaney.
Ed is survived by wife, Millie Wild Meaney, children, Kathleen Lucas and husband, Matt, Edward Meaney Jr. and wife Brenda, Kevin W. Meaney, Clare Miller and husband P.J., Alice Benzaia and husband John, and 17 grandchildren.
He is also survived by his second family, stepdaughters, Michelle Leining, Stephanie Rothfuchs and husband Al, and stepson, Steve Wild and wife Dana, and six grandchildren.
Visitation will occur on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 5pm-8pm (Rosary at 7:00pm) at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas. The funeral mass in his honor will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church in League City, Texas with Rev. Howard Drabek officiating Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Lucas, Mark Lucas, Patrick Simmons, Phillip Miller, Paul Miller, and Brian Meaney. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Owen Meaney, Peter Miller, John Paul Benzaia, Josh Rothfuchs, Brian Leining and Ben Rothfuchs.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Texas City or St. Mary Catholic School in League City.
