Dr. Janis Frnka, 69, of Texas City, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, due to complications from a prolonged illness. She was born on March 2, 1953, in Fort Worth, TX, and resided in Houston, TX for most of her life. She attended Robert E. Lee High School (Houston), the University of Houston and the University of Texas. While raising two kids, she followed in her father's footsteps, pursued a career in Dentistry, and graduated from the University of Texas School of Dentistry.
Janis is survived by her two children, Robert Atkins and Jenifer Lewetzki; her brother, Dr. Mark Frnka and five grandchildren, Kaylee Atkins, Jadon Sanchez, Robert Atkins IV, Declan Atkins and Bransen Lewetzki. She also leaves behind her precious friends Dr. Robert Bishop, Marcia Lewetzki, Carlos "Gonzo" Acevedo, Tom Gulino, Nancy Heard, her neighbors and her two beloved dogs, Sadie and Shilah.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Milford C. Frnka, and Jewel E. Frnka.
Janis was an avid reader and watcher of science fiction and fantasy and enjoyed listening to rock and roll and classical music. She loved her dogs, plants, and cooking for her family and friends. She decorated her home with dragons and dragonflies and enjoyed her weekly lunches with Marcia Lewetzki and Nancy Heard. She loved the color purple, red wine and Bombay Sapphire and tonics.
She spent her final years improving the lives of the people around her. She was beloved by many and will be greatly missed.
A memorial and service will be held 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. She will be buried at noon, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Frnka Family Cemetery in New Ulm, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your local dog rescue charities.
