We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Collier Michael Cole of Dickinson, Texas. He passed away at the age of 74 years on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in Webster, Texas.
Collier was born on December 6, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, to Norman and Jeanne Cole. He attended Monroe High School, UCLA, and The University of Houston. He moved to Houston in 1971 to begin his Masters and PHD Program in Clinical Psychology. In 1975, he moved to Clear Lake, Texas to begin his residency in Clinical Psychology at UTMB. It was during this time that he met his future wife, Colby Davis. They married in August of 1980 and celebrated 43 years of marital bliss.
Collier was a full professor of psychology at UTMB and began a private practice from 1983 - 2016 with Lee Emory MD at Rosenberg Clinic in Galveston. He was also Chair of the Governor’s Committee in Austin, Texas for sexual abuse. He was a member of the Harry Benjamin Society and worked with patients with gender identity disorders. Collier also taught at Texas A&M University in Galveston for many years and participated in the Physician’s Assistant Program at UTMB. He semi-retired in 2016 and continued to see a few select patients.
Collier is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Jeanne Cole; in-laws, Bud and Jo Davis; cousin, Robert Rittman of Indiana; and many aunts and uncles from Indiana and California.
He is survived by his wife, Colby Cole; sister-in-law, Mary Kim Tholen; family members, Kimberly Marler, Linda and Mike Paulk, Bill and Annie Rittman, Robbie Rittman and numerous family and friends.
Pallbearers are Martin Johanson, Thomas Matties, Michael Matties, Matthew Matties, and Francis Matties. Honorary pallbearers include Torben Lange, Barry Witherden, Mike Paulk, Eddie Gaines, Jacob Lange, Jonas Lange, and Pat Bush.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2024, with a visitation from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. A burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in League City, Texas.
