Dorothy Holt, 94, passed away on Saturday, May 23, with her family by her side. She was born on February 7, 1921 , in Houston, TX. the daughter of James and Kathryn Holland. Dorothy was a resident of La Marque for 67 years, a graduated of Regan High School and Rice University, a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, and an English teacher at Texas City High School for 30 years. She also served on the board for La Marque Public Library for many years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Orren Holt and her son John Henry Holt.
Dorothy is survived by her children Joan Helton (Edward); James Holt (Susan) Jerry Holt (Johnnie) and Jeanie Willingham (Bob). She is also survived by her grandchildren Chad Holt; Bonnie Holt; Elise Helton; Thomas Holt (Sarah); Jacob Helton (Erin); Ashley Cuellar ( Matthew); Hailee Taylor (John); and 8 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. A special thanks to her beloved caregivers Vanessa Peltier and Connie Morin.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 26 from 5 to 7 PM at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on May 27 in the Chapel at Emken-Linton Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Selzer officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East in Webster,TX.
Pallbearers will be Chad Holt, Thomas Holt, Shay Holt, Matthew Cuellar, Karl Andersen and James Andersen.
Dorothy was a member of the Greatest Generation and lead a full life, touching many lives, and will be sorely missed by those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Animal Alliance of Galveston County located in La Marque, American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
