Doris Estelle Biggs Nolen, a longtime resident of Texas City, Texas went to heaven, joining her husband Allen C. Nolen and her daughter Alana Nolen Griffin Bowman on the afternoon of April 20, 2016 at her residence with family in Dickinson.
Doris was born April 4, 1927 in Burnet, Texas to Luther Biggs and Isabel Vickers Biggs. She attended school and worked at a pharmacy in Burnet until she met the love of her life, an actor at a medicine show. He returned to the area as a participant in the NYA camp, where he learned his machinist trade. He courted her until she promised her love to him. He joined the service during WWII and when he returned they married in 1938. They spent the early years of their marriage in Florida where he was an instructor for the remainder of his service. They returned to Texas to pursue his craft as a machinist and start their family. She became a mother at age 20 in 1946 when their daughter Alana Lou Nolen was born. Doris worked at a grocery bakery so she could buy studio portraits of her beautiful daughter. She again was blessed as a mother when her son Gary Douglas Nolen was born, and again later another son, Larry Dean Nolen. She enjoyed keeping a healthy happy home for her husband and children. She opened her home and heart to many children that still to this day call her "Mama Dot."
She was a very happy proud homemaker. She loved and cared for her grandchildren, Briana Griffin Etie, Brian Griffin, Matthew Nolen and Victoria Nolen. They affectionately called her "Maw Maw." She was blessed with loving great grandchildren, Adriana Eti, Dustin Eti, Melody Nolen, Liliana Nolen and Beau Eti. Her numerous nieces and nephews affectionately called her "Aunt Dot."
Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church while living in Texas City. She enjoyed attending the Silvertones Retiree's Club.
We will celebrate her 89 loving years on earth with services at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City Monday, April 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., and a visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Graveside services to follow at Forest Parks East.
