Don Dick, 79, of Moss Hill, passed away Saturday, March 14, in Houston.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19th, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18th at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Mr. Dick was born March 22, 1935 in Texas City. He graduated from Texas City High School and was a retired longshoreman and a member of the ILA. He was a rancher, a member of the Elks Lodge # 2019 and a member of the Chevy Cookers Cooking team for over 20 years. He participated in several Houston Rodeo BBQ cook-offs. He strongly believed in giving back to the community as he demonstrated by helping with numerous charity events such as fundraisers for people in need. Some of those charities were the annual Elks Lodge Jingle Bell Ball and St. Jude's Hospital. He then finished strong by becoming a life donor and donating his liver.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Horace Chilton and Eddie Wilder Dick; brothers, Edward and Frank Dick; great granddaughter, Jillian Dick.
Survivors include brother, Jeff Dick; sister, Myrtle Reeves; children, Michael Wayne Matlock and wife Virginia, Don DeWayne Dick and wife, Beth, Paul Lenard Dick and wife, Peggy, Elizabeth Renee' Hillman and husband, Wilson, Keith Robert Dick, Jon Chilton Dick and wife, India; Jonie Jean Hodes and husband, Ben; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He also had numerous step children, step grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and hundreds of friends.
The man never met a stranger.
