Dee Smith

Dee James Smith of Texas City passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, April 27, 2015. He was born to Dee James and Hazel Smith on January 3, 1922 in Goose Creek, Texas, now Baytown.

An honorable member of the "Greatest Generation," Dee served his country in Europe during World War II from 1942 to 1946. After the war, Dee worked in the retail automobile business for many years in Houston, Texas City and other locations.

Dee married his wife, Connie Moses Smith, on January 6, 1943. Dee and Connie retired from successful careers in 1987 and pursued many other interests, including traveling, dancing, playing bridge, golf and visiting casinos. He is an original member of the Texas City Mainland Lions Club where he was dedicated to serving his community.

Throughout his life, Dee was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was very proud of his family members' many accomplishments, and he enjoyed attending family events such as sports competitions, graduations and holiday celebrations.

A man can be defined in many ways, and Dee was the ultimate people person. If you met Dee, he would soon have you telling him all about yourself, as he would take a genuine interest in you and your life. All those who knew Dee, whether briefly or for many years, knew him as a friend.

Dee is survived by his wife of 72 years, Connie M Smith; by his sons Dr. Richard Neal Smith and wife Priscilla of Troy, New York, Dr. Ronald James Smith and wife Sherry of Kingwood, Texas; and by his daughter Nancy Dee Chamberlain and husband David of Lake Jackson, Texas. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Ramsey and his wife SaraBeth, and Kyle Smith, and Mark and Sharla Chamberlain; as well as by two great-grandchildren, Mason and Eva Chamberlain.
