David W. McDuffie, Jr., (Iron Butterfly) 70, of Texas City, passed away May 14, 2017 at Mainland Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Picayune, Mississippi on May 10th, 1947, to David and Maudie McDuffie. He lived in Galveston County for 30 years.
He served in the United States Airforce as a Transportation Specialist. He was stationed at Lakeland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX. He was in the motorcade that transported L B Johnson to his ranch. He was employed at Mainland Concrete, Inc. for the last 18 years.
Mr. McDuffie was an avid pool player. He was the best in the County and made a living for a time playing pool. He liked people to think he was a gruff man but he had a heart of gold.
He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Maudie McDuffie, and his son, Tracy McDuffie.
He is survived by his wife, Betty McDuffie, his son, Kelly McDuffie, Step daughters, Corenia Gonzales of Santa Fe TX, Cindy Newman of Star City, AK, Stepson Allen Baxter of Texas City. Sisters, Dell Dickerson and Laurie Lewis of East Texas, Granddaughters, Amber Salimi and Amanda Baxter of Texas City.
The family will be honoring his life with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 22, 2017 with Roger Robertson officiating. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F Lowry Expressway, Texas City, TX.
