Curtis Garrett

Curtis Garrett, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in New Caney, Tx. He was born August 18, 1949, in Galveston, Texas. Curtis is preceded in death by parents Robert Lewis Garrett and Betty Jane Smith and his sister Mary Margaret and stepson Joshua Burkhalter.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Garrett of 36 years; sisters, Teary Pike, Della Smith, Pauline Ortiz, and brother, Otto Lee Garrett; his children, Candye Brandon and husband Eric and Betty Cerbara and husband Peter; his stepchildren, Shawn Burkhalter and wife Marla, Dustin Burkhalter and girlfriend Brandi and her children, Joseph and Madison, Jacqueline Yanez and husband Misael; grandchildren, Nicholas Brandon, John Cerbara, Devin Burkhalter, and numerous nieces and nephews that were very loved.

He finished the 9th grade and after his mother’s passing, he went into the workforce. With his work ethic he gained the respect of any employer he worked for. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S Army serving a tour during the Vietnam War. During his tour he became Buck Sargent E-5 Armor. Always striving to be the highest version of himself. After his tour and working in the workforce for many years, he decided to learn roofing. Leading him to start Genesis Roofing with his beautiful wife Carolyn. The countless amount of people they were able to help during some of most historic hurricanes that have hit Galveston County is astronomical. After 21 years in business, he retired at the age of 71.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, in Texas City, Texas, with funeral services to follow at 4:00 p.m.
