Connie Moses Smith of Texas City passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, July 9, 2015. She was born to Richard Neal and Zelma Moses in El Paso, Texas on August 3, 1921. She grew up in Dallas and later Houston, where she graduated from Lamar High School. She married Dee James Smith in 1943, and they remained devoted to one another for 72 years until Dee's passing earlier this year. Connie and Dee moved to Texas City in 1959, where they lived for most of the next 56 years, raising their 3 children and becoming integral members of the Texas City community.
Connie retired as Executive Assistant to the Chair of Otolaryngology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1987, which allowed she and Dee to pursue a wide range of interests, including traveling, dancing, playing bridge and doing volunteer work in the community, but most of all spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, to whom they were both devoted. She was an active member of the Professional Secretaries Association in the Galveston area, as well of the Red Hat Society in Texas City.
Connie is survived her sons Dr. Richard Neal Smith and his wife Priscilla of Troy, New York, Dr. Ronald James Smith and his wife Sherry of Kingwood, Texas; and by his daughter Nancy Dee Chamberlain and her husband David of Lake Jackson, Texas. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Ryan Goodwin-Smith and partner Steve Goodwin, Lauren Smith, Ramsey Smith and his wife SaraBeth, Kyle Smith, and Mark and Sharla Chamberlain; as well as by two great-grandchildren, Mason and Eva Chamberlain.
A memorial service and internment will take place on Wednesday, July 15 at 1:00 PM at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. The family requests that memorial donations are sent to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org .
