Christopher Briley Samford passed away unexpectedly on March 14, 2016. He was 55 years old and a long-time resident of Santa Fe, TX. Chris was a Plant Manager at Mainland Concrete and had been with the company for 21 years. He was known to his family & work family as "Sidewinder", his CB handle from his many years of driving a truck. He was forced to quit driving commercially in 2001 due to medical restrictions after an emergency brain surgery to remove a tumor, which he fully recovered from. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl & Maurine Samford of Texas City, TX.
He is survived by his brother, children and grandchildren. Chris always had a nickname for his children and grandchildren, and rarely called them by their real name. Daughter Brandy Garcia "Brandy Lou/Daja", son-in-law Anthony Saenz "Ant" & granddaughter Marissa Garcia "DoodleBug" of League City, TX. Daughter, Cassidy Samford "Dirtdobber", her fiancé Brandon Ringo & granddaughter Brighley Sobnosky "JuneBug" of Santa Fe, TX. Son, Christopher Samford "Homie" of Santa Fe, TX. and grandson, Bret Samford of Cross Plains, TN. And brother, H.C. Samford of Texas City, TX. Chris also had two pets that were very dear to him. His cat Starry and his dog Smokey Mo. Smokey went everywhere with Chris, he even went to work with him every single day. Everyone at the plant new Smokey.
The family would like to thank David Bailey of Mainland Concrete, Chris's longtime friend and work buddy, for adopting Smokey and offering to love and care for him just as Chris did. His daughters are so grateful for this act of kindness from Mr. Bailey. The family would also like to thank Larry & Peggy Burks, owners of Mainland Concrete. The Burks have gone above and beyond to help Chris's daughters make sure they had everything they needed to make his final arrangements. They have been like family to Chris for the past 21 years and have shut both plants down on the day of services to assure everyone is able to attend. The family is so fortunate that Chris has such an amazing work family and are sincerely thankful to the owners and his coworkers for everything they are doing to help his daughters during this difficult time of need and support.
