Charles Richard Gilchrist, 92, passed from this life April 6, 2016 at Hilltop Village Nursing Home in Kerrville, Texas.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Charles was born in Paola, Kansas on December 4, 1923. He was the seventh child of William and Rose Gilchrist.
Charles graduated from high school in Aransas Pass, Texas where he met his future wife, Flavilla Elmira Bromley. Charles volunteered for the Army Air Corps in the Second World War, and was a gunner on bombers.
Post war he started as a deck hand on a tug boat, working his way up to captain, and taking barges down to Central and South America. In the late 1960's he was invited onto the Galveston, Texas Bar. He retired from the Bar in 1993.
In retirement, Charles and Flavilla moved to Las Vegas to enjoy the gambling, lights, and show time environment.
Charles is preceded in death by Flavilla, the love of his life for 69 years. Charles is survived by his sister, Corrine; his son, Charles II; his daughter, Gary; four grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
