Catarino Torres, Jr., 89 years old, of Texas City, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A rosary and memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City, TX 77591.
Catarino Torres, Jr. (affectionately known as Cato and also as C.T.) was born in Calvert, TX on October 22, 1934. He attended school in Harlingen, TX. He was married to the love of his life, Dora J. Torres, for 68 years. He worked at Welch Brothers Chevrolet, Benny’s Paint & Body Shop, owned Galveston County Patrol, and ultimately retired from the City of Texas City, where he worked in the Parks & Recreation Dept.
C.T. was a loving husband, father, Popo, and Great Grandpa. He was a hardworking, funny, sweet, and loving man, but also was the epitome of a tough guy and was a man of Faith. We shall truly miss our conversations, his sense of humor, his hugs, and beautiful smile. He loved to fish, travel across Texas (whether to go camping, dancing to conjunto music, or visiting relatives). He left us tons of beautiful memories which we will cherish forever. We were Blessed to have him in our lives as our Patriarch. While our hearts are broken and we are saddened by his loss, we are happy that he has now been reunited with his son, granddaughter, parents, and other loved ones. We are comforted with the knowledge that his son was waiting for him with open arms and that he is no longer ill, but now has been made whole again. We look forward to the day we can be reunited again, but until then, we will carry him in our hearts and in our thoughts and know we now have another Angel watching over us.
He was preceded in death by his son, Catarino Torres, III, his granddaughter, Leticia Lynn Ortiz, his sister, Angelita Torres Brannock and his brothers, Gilbert Torres, Alex Torres, and Baldemar Torres, and his parents, Catarino Torres, Sr. & Maria Luisa De Leon Torres.
He is survived by his wife; Dora J. Torres, children; Armelita “BB” Ortiz, Diana L. Cuello (Ernest), grandchildren; Gregory E. Torres (Liz), Maria T. Guyton (Scotty), Catarino A. Torres (Karen), Aaron D. Torres (Andrea), Peter Ortiz III (Amy). Great-grandchildren; Jordan Garcia, Hunter Guyton, Katelynn Torres, Alejandro Torres, Aeden Torres, Kylie L. Ortiz, and Caiden Ortiz, siblings; Carol Anderson and J.B. Torres, and numerous other relatives.
The Torres Family wishes to extend our most sincere gratitude to those that sent prayers from near and far, and especially to the ICU staff at Mainland Center Hospital and his caregivers at Angels Loving and Caring Group Home for their loving and attentive care.
