Carolyn Ann Palmer Maupin, 61, of Texas City, peacefully passed away at her home on June 15, 2021 surrounded by loved ones, after a short battle with cancer. Carolyn was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to those blessed to be in her orbit.
Carolyn was born in Chicago Illinois, on June 28, 1959, the youngest child of Joseph and Ethel Palmer. The family relocated to Niles Michigan in 1962 and Carolyn graduated from Niles High School in 1975. She attended Oakwood College in Huntsville Alabama where she majored in Business and met and married her husband of 36 years, LaVaunt Maupin Jr. After college they settled in Texas City to start a family.
Hard work was in her DNA. She worked many years as the manager of a McDonald’s franchise store, before moving on to the Texas City PD as a dispatcher and finally to BP/Marathon in October, 2003 where she worked until her illness. She will be forever remembered by many of her co-workers for her kind, upbeat and positive attitude.
Carolyn was an active member and deaconess at the Mainland SDA Church and enjoyed fellowship and potlucks with her church family. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed traveling, cruising, collecting elephants, family reunions and stopping at every Ross store she passed. Her passion was opening her home and being a surrogate mom to troubled souls who benefitted from her wisdom and guidance to get through some of the difficult years.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, LaVaunt Maupin Jr; sons, LaVaunt Maupin III (Latosha), Quentin Maupin Sr. (Kassandra), Tyrell Maupin; siblings, Rachel Starnes, Phyllis Palmer, Joseph Palmer Jr., and Samuel Palmer (Rose); father-in-law, LaVaunt Maupin Sr; sister-in-law, Laurry Glover (Brian); stepmother, Donna Palmer; 4 grandkids and many aunts, uncles and cousins that she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ethel Wilson Palmer; grandparents, Rev Richard and Matilda Wilson and Martha Palmer; in-laws, Isabelle Tryals, Dean Tryals and Alberta Maupin.
A memorial service in her honor is scheduled for June 22, 2021 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home, 5100 Emmet F. Lowry Expressway, Texas City Texas.
