Carmen was born on May28, 1926 in Waco, Texas to Calixtro and Maria Rivera. Carmen spent her early years in Donna and Taft, Texas before making her home in Texas City. Carmen spent her life working hard and raising her family. She owned her own business and also retired from Texas City ISD. She loved to play Bingo, go to the Casino and go to garage sales to find her "Diamond and Pearl Treasures". Family was very important to her and she was always ready to feed the masses (especially her "pink stuff") that came to visit. "Grandma" as she was lovingly called by her kids and grandkids, would say her greatest achievement was raising her family. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church until her health declined.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, her 1st husband, Indercio Reyes, her 2nd husband Moses Ortiz, Granddaughter Delores Reyes Atchley, and a son-in-law Moe Nekooi.

She is survived by her children Calistro Reyes (Olivia), Norma Nekooi , Noemi Garza, Martin Reyes (Cristina), Edward Reyes (Debi); and Indercio Reyes (Patricia). She is also survived by many Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great-great child and her beloved daughter-in-law, Kim Reyes.

Pall Bearers will be Tomas Reyes, Michael Nekooi, Eddie Reyes, Martin Reyes, Danny McFarland and Samuel Reyes. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Danny Reyes, Bobbie Garza, David Reyes, David McFarland, Joseph Reyes, Eli Reyes and Rojolio Reyes
