Billy Joe Pruitt, 88, of Texas City, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2017 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City.
Billy was the only child born June 20, 1929 to Willie and Dodson Pruitt in Athens, Texas and grew up in Corsicana, Texas. Billy was a long-time resident of Texas City since 1956, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Texas City since 1969. Billy served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and served in the Korean war from 1952-1956. Billy spent 35 years employed by Todd Shipyard on Pelican Island in Galveston, Texas. He was also a correspondent for classes at the Business School of Wisconsin. He was a member of Union of Property Engineers Local #450. Billy was a union representative where he helped negotiate and structure agreements between labor and corporate entities. He operated heavy machinery and cranes for 35 years. Billy built two houses in his lifetime, one in Trinity, Texas and one in Livingston, Texas. In his later years, he built many arts and crafts. His love was to build Adirondack chairs, today many of them are in homes on Galveston Island. His love of football was for the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and Texas City High School teams.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Billy is survived by his wife of 67 years; Lorraine Byrd Pruitt, two daughters Beverly Kerski and husband Chris, and Vicki Pruitt Crouch; one son Duane Pruitt and wife Merlinda; his 8 grandchildren; Brandi Pruitt, Jackie Kerski Covelli and husband Matt, Krista Kerski, Katelynn Pruitt, Emily Crouch, Billy Crouch, Ryan Kerski, Julie Pruitt and his one great granddaughter Lyla Moore.
