Billie Jo Burkhalter was born October 10,1926 to Arland and George Andrew Birdwell in Minden,TX.She went to be with the Lord on October 27th,2014.

She arrived to Texas City before the 1947 blast to work for CP Evans, then went on to work for, and retire from,Texas New Mexico Power Company after 43 years. In 1992,she began her second career working for JC Penny approximately 6 months after her retirement,where she spent 26 years selling jewelry. This was not only a job for her it was a passion.

She met and married James W. Burkhalter,and remained with him for 66 years in Texas City.She was the glue that kept the family together. She enjoyed spending countless hours preparing meals most Sundays and all holidays. She was affiliated with The Red Hat Ladies and Hi Neighbor,as well as many years at First Baptist Church doing various volunteer activities and Sunday School.

Billie, who was called Mimi by almost everyone,enjoyed decorating her house in many and ever . changing themes for different Holidays. She and James saved for many years while carefully collecting pieces of furniture,light fixtures, and nicknacks for the home they planned to build for their retirement. She filled her new home with love and hospitality, and could often be found digging through closets to find some crazy fountain she purchased at the mall or discussing how she had decided the theme for Christmas would be 11Mauve11

Billie is preceded in death by her husband,James Weldonsister,Jimmy Burtonson,David Burkhalter
daughterinlaw,Glenda Burkhalter and grandsons,Joshua and Jeremy Burkhalter.

Billie is survived by her sons, Mike,Carl and Kevin Burkhaltergrandchildren,Joey Ferguson,Dana Burkhalter and Ben Bucci Shawn and Marla Burkhalter,Dustin Burkhalter,Jamie,Jaqueline, Lauren and Taylor Burkhalter and greatgrandchildren,Kaitlyn Dean and Devin Burkhalter,Sisters,Mary Pruitt Rawlings,Pat Lowe and husband Doyle,Linda Meza and husband Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joey Ferguson,Shawn Burkhalter,Dustin Burkhalter,Taylor Burkhalter, Kaitlyn Dean, Devin Burkhalter and Ben Bucci.

The Viewing with be held Thursday,October 30th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at EmkenLinton Funeral Home.The Funeral Service with be held Friday,October 31st at 10 AM,at First Baptist Church in Texas City.

The family would also like to give a special thanks her family at Evening Star Personal Care Home for the love shown to her over her final years.She loved you all dearly.
