Bertha Mae Atwood, 91, of Texas City, Passed away November 29, 2022 in Beaumont, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City with a visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Park East.
Bertha Mae Atwood, daughter of John W. Elliott and Vergie Doyal Elliott was born February 21, 1931 in Sieper, Louisiana. Bertha moved to Texas City in 1947 to work for her brother-in-law in a photography shop. There she met the love of her life, Jack Atwood where he was getting his picture taken for all school favorites. Bertha was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Most importantly Bertha was a faithful Christian woman who possess a servant’s heart. Serving the Lord and loving family brought her great joy. She was employed for decades at Southwestern Bell ( AT&T) until her retirement and was an active member of First Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, and her husband, Jack Atwood. Survivors include daughter, Jacquelyn Gwen and husband, Richard Martin, Jr. of Beaumont and son, Ronald Atwood, and wife Dana of Webster; grandchildren, Amanda Martin of Beaumont, Jonathon Atwood of Webster, Tim Dean and Jaclyn of League City, Chris Dean and Christina of Yelm, WA; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Jacob, Clare, Caleb, Audrey, Aeres Dean and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Texas City.
