Benita was born on March 22, 1919, in Weirgate, Texas, to Concepcíon and Amada Capetillo. She was married to Vicente B. Segura on November 23, 1941 and live in Sugar Land, Texas. After World War II started, she started working at the Sugar Refinery in Sugar Land. They moved to Texas City in 1943, and made her life there as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2000.
Mom loved talking to her brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family that talked to her knew she liked to reminisce. You knew she would always go back to Sugar Land where she grew up and made so many friends there. She enjoyed remembering the good old days. She always liked talking to people wherever we went and made them feel like they were her friends.
Mom was our Family Historian and could talk to us about our grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc. She also kept the Post Office busy by buying stamps to mail out all her letters, birthday cards, anniversary cards, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentines, Halloween, and other special occasions.
She loved to read the newspaper from the front page to the back and knew what was going on in the community, especially when we lived in Texas City. She could give you an update on what was going on. She liked to cut out certain articles and keep for herself or mail them to you if she knew it would be of interest to you.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Concepcíon and Amada Olguín Capetillo; her husband, Vicente B. Segura; a step-son, Alexander T. Segura; brothers, Genaro Capetillo, and Tomas Capetillo; and sisters, Guadalupe C. Martinez and Candelaria C. Medrano.
Survivors include her daughters, Cecilia Segura Diaz and husband Jose; Herlinda Segura Garcia and husband Juan; step-daughter, Juanita T. Segura; brothers Toby Capetillo and wife Sylvia; Felix O. Capetillo and wife Theresa. There are 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers include her grandsons, Jaime Garcia, and Greg Garcia; her nephews, Tommy Capetillo, George Capetillo, Robert Capetillo, and Sabino Medrano.
A special thank you to Father Ramiro Tarazona, from Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop, Texas, and to the Eucharistic Ministers: Karen Pinard, Corby Weiss, and Deborah Moore who came to give her the Holy Eucharist every week. Thank you for your kindness.
Our special thank you to Texas Home Health Nurses Barbara Browne, Sheila James, to our daughter, Oralia Diaz Bush, and to our neighbor and friend, Irma Cruz, who gave her the special attention she needed. Irma was there every week on Wednesday to care for her while we got out for a little while.
