Alice Mereleen Gross, age 90, passed away on June 6, 2016 in Houston, Texas. She died peacefully due to natural causes with family by her side.
Mereleen, as she preferred to be called, was born July 18, 1925 in Bayou Meto, Arkansas to McKinley and Alice Harris.
Mereleen grew up in Arkansas and graduated valedictorian from Cotton Plant High School in 1945. She married James Edward Gross in June 1949 and resided with her husband James in Arkansas, California, and Texas until his death in 2004. She completed 2 years of college and was employed in various clerical and book keeping positions until her retirement from Lewisville Independent School District in 1988.
Mereleen is preceded in death by her parents and brother Lester Harris and her sister Ellen Rolf.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Hiloski; her son, Scott Gross; grandchildren, Ashley Krajnak, Candice and Arielle Fleming, Deanna and Kaley Gross and great grandchild, Christian Krajnak.
Mereleen was a special person and will be missed greatly by her family and all who knew and cared for her.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Galveston Memorial Park.
