ALBERT OZON

Albert Ozon was born in Galveston, Texas on February 27, 1919 and passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2013. He was the first born child of Isaac and Fannie Haus Ozon. Albert graduated from Ball High School and was a proud Tor. He also was a proud member of the Rattlesnakes, a gang of boys that grew up around 17th Street and Winnie in Galveston. They met annually for a gettogether and Albert loved to tell jokes and see his old friends.

Albert served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed at Fort Crockett in Galveston, which was only a short distance to his familys home. The doors of his parents home were always open to other servicemen for lunch regularly.

Albert began employment at Union Carbide in 1954 and retired from there in 1980. Also in 1954 was when Albert married the love of his life, Shirley Bromberg. He went to night school while he worked at Carbide and got his real estate license. He then went to work for several real estate companies in Texas City where he made many lasting friendships. Shirley went to school a few years later. They both received their brokers licenses and opened Ozon Realty. Albert was recognized as the best emcee at the annual TCLM Board of Realtors banquets and would entertain everyone with his jokes. He was an active member of Congregation Beth Jacob in Galveston.

Albert and Shirley loved to go to Las Vegas with his sisters and their spouses as well as other friends, usually twice a year. He enjoyed bowling in the Carbide League and won many trophies. Albert was a great dad who supported all of his childrens endeavors such as softball, band and pep squad. He loved to go to the TCHS Stingaree football games and play bingo at the Nessler Senior Citizen Center.

Albert is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, and sister Betty. He is survived by daughters Barbara White, Joanne Gongora and Rena husband Chris Hulen. Grandchildren include Jackie husband Andy Crawford, Michelle Saenz, Clay Gongora and Mark White. Greatgrandchildren are Kenneth, Jared, Casey, Chloe and Kyle. He is also survived by sisters Doris Levin, Celia Holste, and Ruth Stevenson and brotherinlaw Larry Bromberg as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Alberts devoted caregivers Susie Gee, Mary Garcia, Peggy ODonohoe, Juanita Benavides, and Carolyn Sayers.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Congregation Beth Jacob Cemetery located at 2110 61st Street in Galveston, Texas.
