A. A. Dixie Walker, Jr. 83 of Texas City passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.
Dixie was born July 18, 1932 in Aruba, British West Indies. He retired from Amoco Oil Company as a supervisor of the SRU. Before he was employed at Amoco he worked in the family business Dixie Walker Friedrich Air Conditioning Company. He was active with and loved the Texas City Rotary Club in which he served as Past President and a Paul Harris recipient. He was a supporter of Texas City Stings Football Team and Athletics Department, and was privileged and proud to present the Dixie Walker MVP Award that originated in 1949. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A. A. Dixie Walker, Sr., and Russie Walker; his brother Bert Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Welch Walker; his sons, A. A. Dixie Walker, III, Scott Walker, Clay Walker and wife Vicki; his sister Russie Lynn Walker DeZengotita Carden and husband Kenny; his grandchildren, Heather Hiser Reid and husband Brad, Brittany Walker, Chelsea Huebner, Tyler Scott Walker, Coby Clay Walker, Jason Walker and wife Michell, Chris Walker and wife Lisette; his great grandchildren, Maliyah Walker, Camden McGahee, Finlie Faith Reid; his nieces, Cole DeZengotita Bronn and husband Greg, Daryn DeZengotita and Celia Barshop; a nephew, Steven Walker and wife Sandra, numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and family.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Gene Stephens, Pye Zaragoza, Don Gartman, Robert Himmel, Greg Mazzantini and the late Alvin Berry also the members of the Texas City Rotary Club and the Texas City Stings Football Team and Athletics Department.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff at The Rio of the Mainland, the nurses and doctors at Mainland Medical Center, especially to Brandy Vrana, and our special friend who became a family member to us, Guy Nelson.
